On Saturday, September 8, 2001, Beit Tikvah Messianic Congregation walked
with their sefer Torah from their old location in north Bellevue to their
new location in Newcastle, WA. The 8.1 mile walk took exactly three hours,
leaving Bellevue at 7:15 AM and arriving at 10:15 AM. There were approximately
75 members following Rabbi Hylan Slobodkin as they approached their new home
in Newcastle. The Torah was placed in the ark and they proceeded to dance and
sing praises to the Lord.
A special Dedication Service followed as they read from the Torah in
Hebrew and Rabbi Hylan Slobodkin spoke about God's provision of their new
facilities. After the service the congregants gathered around the front
entrance and the mezuzah was affixed to the doorpost as commanded in
Deuteronomy chapter 6.
We even got a police escort and
King 5
news coverage.
