Newsletter - Spring 2001
From the Rabbi

"Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. The testing of your faith produces endurance. We walk by faith; not by sight." (Hebrews 11:1; James 1:3; 2 Corinthians 5:7)

During change and transition we can either make the adjustments needed to conform to the will of God, or we can murmur and complain and continue in our own way. I'd rather do the former. Beit Tikvah is going through some changes. Will you make the adjustments with us?

First Change
We cancelled our Sunday morning service this past December. Unbeknown to some, this was an historical move that shifted the primary and original emphasis of Beit Tikvah to one that recognizes and honors Shabbat (the Sabbath) as the day of rest and of worship. I recently preached a message entitled, "What Is A Messianic Congregation." I suggest you order a copy as it will detail for you this new emphasis and help you understand who we are and where we are going.

Second Change
We have enjoyed our current facility for over ten years. In some ways it has become like home to us, and especially to those who first joined us while at this location. However, our rent has been steadily increasing. Due to a recent hefty increase we have decided we need to move. As this newsletter goes to print we do not know where we are going. Sounds a bit like Abraham. (Genesis 12)

"The mind of a man plans his way but the Lord directs his steps." (Proverbs 16:9) We are calling, looking, searching and trusting the Lord to direct our steps regarding a new meeting facility for our worship times and for our offices. Please join with us in this endeavor and praying for His will to be done. My primary concern is to find a place that will allow our three main services to meet in the same location: Friday night, Saturday morning and our Russian service on Saturday night. If you can help us, please call our office. Our landlord will let us stay through the High Holy Days, that is, till October 15th. After that we are trusting in the grace of God to "provide for all our needs according to His riches in glory in Messiah Yeshua." (Philippians 4:19)

I'm writing this at 37,000 feet as I fly to Los Angeles for my parents' 60th wedding anniversary and my dad's 80th birthday party. The sun has just set and the horizon is aglow as though on fire for hundreds of miles. I am witness this day to the awesome creative power of our awesome God. The scripture verse that was included with the meal served on this Alaska Airlines flight is from Psalm 69:30. "I will praise God's name in song and glorify Him with thanksgiving." The picture above the verse is a beautiful orange-red sunset, just like the one I am witnessing today.

Lord, You are righteous and true, a stronghold in the day of trouble. We trust You in all things. Have Your way in us. Ahmen.

Check out our holiday schedule enclosed. Come and join us as we celebrate the Feasts of the Lord and rejoice in the God of our salvation. We see Yeshua portrayed in and fulfilling all the Feasts. He is coming back. Are you ready for His return?

P.S. Many of you know that our Sefer Torah was stolen February 2000 from our sanctuary. Our new scroll arrived safely on September 16th and was dedicated in a special service at Beit Tikvah. Thank you to all who contributed to the purchase of this Torah. Your reward is great in heaven.

We rejoice in Yeshuatainu, our salvation,

Rabbi Hylan
