Rendezvous with the Rabbi

After repeated requests from members of Beit Tikvah, I have agreed to present in written form my Yom Kippur message of October ‘08.

The stock market has plunged. Banks have gone bankrupt. Millions of Americans have lost investments. There is talk of recession and depression. Our economy is shaky. Dreams of retirement have been dashed. People are wondering if they will ever get out of debt. If you’re living on credit, now is the time to cut up your credit cards and pay off your debts. Maybe your wages have been cut and you’re wondering where your next pay check is going to come from. Many feel insecure and unstable. Does anyone relate? So let me share with you some encouraging words.

1.

Though the stock market may plunge, we are to take stock of our lives and reflect on who we are and how we can improve. “He who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Messiah Yeshua.” (Philippians 1:6)

2.

We are bankrupt without the LORD. Without Him we are nothing, but “we can do all things through Messiah who strengthens us.” (Philippians 4:13)

3.

You may have lost investments, but Yeshua came “to seek and to save those who are lost.” (Luke 19:10)

4.

Recession or depression. In the long run it doesn’t matter for “the LORD pulled me out of my despair and set me on a rock.” (Psalm 40:2)

5.

Our economy is shaky, but “we have received a Kingdom that cannot be shaken.” (Hebrews 12:28)

6.

Worried about your retirement? I don’t want to retire, buy an RV and be a snowbird. I want to refire and live my life to the fullest for God until I die. My time to rest will come, but it’s not now.

7.

You think you have debt? You have debt you can never repay. However, Messiah Yeshua paid your debt for you on a cross. He paid a debt you could not pay. Your bill has been paid and your statement is clear.

8.

Do you have a credit problem? Believe God and “it will be credited to you as righteousness.” (Romans 4:3)

9.

Declining wages are a problem. In fact, the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Messiah Yeshua our LORD! (Romans 6:23)

10.

Do you feel insecure and unstable? God will never leave you. He will never forsake you. He will never desert you. “He will be the stability of your times.” (Isaiah 33:6)

Financial crises create more opportunities to trust God. Our faith is tested, which will show what we’re made of. Will you pass the test?
